  Welcome - Intern Housing

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is pleased to offer safe, affordable housing on a traditional university campus for college students with internships in the Charlotte area.

UNC Charlotte is located in northeast Charlotte, conveniently located off North Tryon, I-85 and I-485.  It is less than 10 miles from center city Uptown: traveling either surface roads or interstates takes about 20 minutes.

Intern housing is for students enrolled at a college or university and working full-time in an intern-type placement or job in the Charlotte area.

Intern housing opens Sunday, May 20, and closes Saturday, August 4. Students may arrive after May 20, but the August 4 closing date must be firmly followed, as summer intern space reverts to traditional housing use for the fall.

Intern Housing

Summer interns will live in apartments in the Phase V area, which inlcudes Elm, Pine and Maple buildings.

Intern apartments are single sex, and generally have 3-4 residents (all interns) each. Each apartment is air-conditioned, and includes four 1-person bedrooms, a shower room, and bathroom area with two sinks and a toilet. All apartments have a full-sized kitchen, living/dining area and balcony. Apartments are furnished with a three-seat sofa, coffee table, and dining table with four chairs. Each bedroom has a twin-sized bed, wardrobe, and a desk and a desk chair.

Laundry facilities are within the complex, and parking is adjacent to the area.
  • The rate for intern housing is $20.00/contracted day, and covers all costs for room rent, utility charges, connection, internet connectivity, and local phone service.
  • Interns contract for and pay for the specific days that fit the needs of their summer obligations.
  • Interns will receive an invoice for their stay when they check in. Payments should be made on a regular basis and failure to pay could result in a removal from intern housing.
  • To hold a space in Intern Housing, applicants must submit the on-line application and Campus Safety Questionnaire form, pay the pre-payment and submit a confirmation form from their employer. The pre-payment is applied as the first week's rent if you move in as agreed.

There is not a deadline for Intern Housing applications, although intern housing does fill to capacity. Interns are encouraged to apply before April 15, so that initial assignments may be made shortly thereafter. Assignments are made based on space availability. An intern housing application is considered complete when the application and prepayment are both received.

All application material is available in the application materials section.

Please consult the Frequently Asked Questions section for additional information.
