    Information About the H1N1 Virus

Welcome to the H1N1 information area of our website.

This area will be updated periodically by our staff with the latest information, instructions, and communications that you need to be aware of as a resident in our facilities. In addition to this website, please remember to check your UNC Charlotte student e-mail account for urgent updates and information.

If you have questions or concerns please contact your area's Residence Coordinator, Graduate Assistant or our Main Office.

The H1N1 flu continues circulating worldwide. On Aug. 21, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidelines about the best ways to prevent spreading the H1N1 flu in higher education institutions. The H1N1 flu has proven to be relatively mild and responsive to anti-viral drugs. The CDC recommends that everyone take the following actions to stay healthy:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

  • Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be used if soap and water are not available.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

  • Avoid close contact with sick people.

The Department of Risk Management, Safety and Security and the Student Health Center are leading the University’s response to the H1N1 flu, in collaboration with the UNC General Administration, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services and the Mecklenburg County Department of Public Health. Information about the H1N1 flu will be provided via the University Web page as conditions warrant. More information about the H1N1 flu is available through the CDC's website.
