Move-Out Instructions

Article Date

As the semester comes to a close, it’s time to start planning for residence hall move out. Residents are expected to check out of their rooms within 24 hours after their last final exam or by 12 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Any resident who stays past 12 p.m. on Friday, May 10, without approval, will be required to pay $150 for each day or partial day and may be locked out of their room. Only under special circumstances authorized in advance by the University are students permitted to stay past the deadline.

NOTE: Graduating Seniors may stay until 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 12.

Please carefully read the following in order to be prepared for move out:

Move-Out Guide. Please review our Move-Out Guide for important move-out information including detailed check-out instructions, a cleaning checklist and parking information.

Check-Out Instructions. You have two options for check out:

  • Express Check Out: The easiest way to check out is to place your keys in an Express Check Out envelope and return the envelope to the Express Check Out Box near the REC office. Detailed instructions can be found here
  • Appointment Check Out (in-person): If you want a staff member to check you out of your room you may choose to check out via an in-person appointment. Detailed instructions can be found here.

Mail. Please submit a Change of Address Form to Mail Services to ensure that your mail and packages are sent to the correct address. If there is not a Change of Address form on file, Mail Services will return all mail to sender. You will not receive an email notification if Mail Services receives mail/packages and mail will not be held until the Fall.

Bikes. If you brought a bike to campus, don’t forget to take it home. All bikes left on the bicycle racks near residence halls will be removed after move-out. NOTE: we will notify summer residents prior to the removal date so they can move their bikes inside or tag them properly. Instructions for this process will be sent to summer residents at a future date.

Donations. Move-out donation bins will be placed in the lobby of each residence hall. Items placed in the bins will be donated to the Salvation Army and the Jamil Niner Student Pantry right here on campus! Items to donate in the bins: clothing, shoes, accessories (purses, bags, belts), books, linens, dishes & housewares, storage crates, non-perishable food items (unopened can goods, ramen noodles), unopened, unused toiletries.
